Entebbe Birding Trip by African Jungle Adventures

bee-eater-birds-ugandaAt your arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will meet your tour guide from African Jungle Adventures Ltd and then drive you to your respective place of accommodation in Entebbe. Depending on the time of arrival you may spend the evening at Uganda Wildlife Education Center (UWEC), home to captive animals and in about 150 bird species. These incorporate 7 types of weavers, for example, the northern masked weaver and orange weaver, kingfishers, sunbirds and so on. Dinner and overnight will be at Sophie’s Motel or Lindsay Cottages.

After taking your breakfast at the hotel, you will proceed to Entebbe Botanical Gardens. Here you will have a great time of bird watching on the best trails around Kampala, with about 150 bird species. Pay special mind to the bare faced-go away bird, great blue and ross’ turacos, klaas’ and diederik cuckoo, red chested, great reed warbler, striped, malachite, giant, woodland and pygmy kingfishers, black bishop, Gray Woodpecker, Olive, Olive-bellied, and so forth. A picnic lunch in the beautiful gardens, unwind while watching birds and later in the evening come back to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Mabamba Island & the Search for Shorbills

shoebill-in-ugandaEarly morning after breakfast your hotel, you will transfer to Mabamba Swamp, 50 kms west of Kampala. Pay special mind to numerous bird species on our way to the swamp like the Papyrus Gonolek, red cap, banded snake eagle, white-winged warbler, and weyns weaver. The Mabamba Swamp is one of the best destinations in Uganda to sport the rare Shoebill Stork. Anyhow also numerous different bird species can be sported here, for example; the Allen’s and Purple Gallinule, Gray herons, Jacanas, Ruffaus  Bellied Heron, Squaco, Purple and Goliath Heron, the globally undermined Pallid Harrier and Blue Swallow a vagrant species, a variety of egrets, ducks and so on. The best way to enjoy the rich bird life in this place is by taking a boat trip and you might even have the luck to encounter the elusive Sitatunga Antelope, adapted to swampy habitats. Later toward the evening drive back to the Hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
